Critical reflection on developing communication skill

Effective Communication has helped me greatly in my communication skills with others and the writing of a technical report. At the start, I have mix feeling regarding this module, unable to do well as I come from a Chinese-speaking family. Having ups and downs through the past 3 months of this trimester with the help from my instructor and my peers.

Firstly, I would like to thank Ms. Lim for guiding us through the whole trimester, from the start to the end. Teaching us and constantly checking on our work and reports, giving detailed feedback on ways to improve our work in terms of writing and presentation skills, etc. I would also like to thanks my groupmates, Donny and Derrick for being patience with me, explaining and assisting me in the various aspect where I lack in.

While going through the module, our class was task to do a peer teaching presentation to the class, researching on the topic that was assisted to us. Initially, I thought that it was a total waste of time. Why even bother doing this task when it only holds a small percentage in our overall result, I thought to myself whenever I start researching on my relevant topic for peer teaching. But after the oral presentation, I then found out that there was a motive behind the peer teaching. It is to allow us to practice speaking in front of the class and taking notes of the comments given by our peers and lecturer. I believe it will be good if this could bring on to the next batch on students taking this module. Apart from all the stuff I have learnt from this module, I still have rooms for improvement, mainly on presentation.

  1. Dear Wen Yang,

Thank you for your blog post.

I appreciate your forthrightness in your sharing, particularly with regards to the short, 5-minute peer-teaching session. It is good that you see value in the practice. I must add that I have seen you made good progress in your delivery – in time to come, with more practice, you will be able to deliver good presentations.

All the best to you, and see you around campus!

    Ms. Lim

  2. Hi Wenyang,

I see that we share the same thought regarding the peer teaching. Time and effort was put into the teaching despite having tons of other assignments and projects to work on. However, it was indeed beneficial for us as the feedback from Ms Lim and our peers led us to work on our flawed areas so that we can be readily prepared during our final presentation. I am indeed proud of you for the effort you had been putting into this module. I can see that you are making tremendous improvement as well. See you around in school!

    Regards,
    Huey Teng
